Hey guys, Clearly I'm new to the forum! I was sent over here by Tim from another forum that treated me like crap. Hopefully you guys aren't jerks over here! Tim said you guys were the best. I'm new to the fitness world. I used to be fit in the past from playing sports, but when it comes to working out I'm new. I used to go to a gym, but I'm a teacher and can't afford that anymore. My goals are simple. I want to lose some weight while gaining some muscle in order to lean out. I'm 5 feet, so being a meatball isn't a goal. Just wanna be stronger, but lean. Hopefully I can gain lots of help, advice, etc here. I'm a girl, huge bodybuilding isn't what I'm looking for. But I've learned you guys are the most knowledgable. Hook a sister up Look forward to talking to you all!
Whaddup, Bett?!?!? Welcome to AX!! Teacher, eh? I didn't know that! Kudos to you, from one to another! Just let us know what you're doing on your end to work towards it and we can go over everything with you to make sure that you get the most out of your own diet and training. It's what we do! Welcome to the AXhole Nation, sista!
So it says you are a teacher, does that mean that you currently don't teach? I love it and I hate it. I currently teach first grade. I adore the little babies. But that's the main reason i'm not a fan of the old forum bc I felt like I was arguing with a bunch of 6 year olds lol. Anyway, i'm looking to branch out soon. With a Master's already in the books, I've already taken that first step! That's what I would like to do...no beef...better me and loads of goals. I'm a huge goal person. But I have a love affair with food that is bad for me. So nutrition is the hardest part for me. Currently I'm trying to find the best foods for me and incorporate a workout schedule where I workout at least 5 days a week. I took a fitness test on Sunday from some 30 day challenge I found online. It's pretty intense, but I'm enjoying how sore i've been. Means it's working right lol. I do a lot of body weight exersices and then incorporate some strength in there a couple days a week. My main trouble area is my stomach that's what I really want to tone. I'm not losing any weight there and it's bugging me. My goal date is Memorial Day weekend. SO that gives me...4 months to make something happened. I gotta figure out this nutrition. I've been having protein shake for breakfast, taking vitamins and atho-phex, chicken or turkey for lunch with green beans and brown rices, dinner is iffy I'm so hungry when I get home. Anyway, clearly I'm missing something! Thanks for the welcome note. The fact that I can change my fonts and colors already has me addicted to this site lol.
Bett it up! Welcome homie! Don't worry about any trolls here, we all love to help. Also, don't worry about getting all beef'd up, most females don't produce high enough test levels to do so. Let's train hard, diet harder, and reach that 16wk goal . I have a 16wk goal as well, yay!
Haha, what up! Good cuz trolls scare me! 16 week goal sounds scary to me, I hope I can stick with something! Good to know I'm not alone though
Welcome to the forums. Is it faux pas to assign the teacher a homework assignment? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, would be to keep track of how many calories you are consuming at different mealtimes. Step 2: compare the calories from dinner to the calories from the rest of your day. For some reason, it's the American way to eat an absurd percentage of our caloric intake for dinner. The day is done. Do we really need all that food energy to watch prime-time television? I know lack of comedy of "Two and a Half Men" can be somewhat exhausting.
LOL, I always have homework. Teachers have to take stuff home with them almost daily! I think I can handle this assignment. I will do that today. Currently having my first meal now. I wish I had time to watch tv each night. I have to work a second job so that doesn't typically happen. But I know what you mean with people eating so much at dinner time. I know for me, I don't think I'm eating enough during the day. Come 4 or earlier I'm so famished I feel I could faint. But I'm also limited by my eating during the day. Lunch is about 10 minutes and can't exactly snack all day in front of the kids. Any way, it will be interesting to see what I consume. I'll post it up here later today!
eat more meals and snack less. not exactly sure of your protocol, but knowing several teachers, they all seem to "snack" when grading. the harder the assignment or the longer the read through is, they tend to snack even more. this mindless snacking tends to lead to eating more than normal as your focus is on reading and not on how many chips or triscuits you've consumed. Oh, and welcome to the party. Forums can be draining, especially since people usually don't show a picture of themselves. People treat each other with disrespect because they have no face to face interaction. A lot can also depend on how a statement is read and/or emphasized.
Ok so here is what I consumed yesterday. I had around 1250-1300 calories yesterday. I'm estimating a little bit because when I wrote all this out it was really late. I babysat until 9, so I was really out of it yesterday. I noticed that I was eating the most in the morning to fuel me throughout the day. But I do snack a lot. I don't know how else not to snack! Or I need healthy snacks. I crave salty stuff too and I know I lean towards chips! My dinner was just some chicken nuggets with the kids because I of course forgot to pack my own healthy dinner! As you can see, my main problem is nutrition. Bnatural-You are right I notcied I do like to snack when I grade things. I have 6 year olds so the grading doesn't take too long, but when I have to do lesson plans I do. I really need to develop healthier eating habits. The older I get the harder it is to lose weight and maintain it. I think with forum posts people are more likely to show their asses bc they aren't showing there faces. But for me I come to the forum's to get help, not feel belittled. I know words can be misconstrued in forums as well. The post on the other forum was asking guys if they thought girls were better with makeup or no makeup. It started off good and then one dbag just starting belittling women by his posts and guys started coming down on me. It was not fun, so I deleted the thread and won't post new ones on that site anymore!
It's easy to be a jerk online and a lot of people tend to get a god complex on forums. Here, it's far different, and it's catered towards helping others no matter what the issue may be. No question is ever "too dumb" to ask. This is for multiple reasons, but 2 keys are that 1, if you are thinking it, at least one other person is thinking the same thing. 2, even the smartest person can learn something everyday, and something in the answers provided may create a learning experience for others. Onto your diet. -I did not notice a weight posted, and typically it's a no-no for guys to ask BUT this is important info to estimate your caloric needs. The calories you provided could be suitable for a moderately active person weighing 110-130, but this can be different for someone who was a former athlete. -Snacking. It's the devil, plain and simple. It's too easy to snack and be hungry an hour later and snack again. Meals should be more dense and more satisfying to your palate. My philosophy is that the body tends to crave certain nutrients from certain foods. So, chips would be more along the lines of a need for sodium. Chocolate could trigger the need for a rise in blood glucose. --I am not sure if you are single, living with someone, have a kid, etc. These are also key factors. I've been single and ate very clean, then went to dating and it went down a little. I needed to cater to someone else's needs, as well as my own. Now, I have a son, and a wife, so along with 1 persons needs, I also have a little energizer bunny that gets faster by the day. This means I have less time for things, i.e. food prep. It took time to adjust, but everything is a process and the best is to not get overwhelmed. Things just need to be broken down even more. You are a teacher, so breaking down the day into stages along with weeks should be somewhat more usual for you. So, for the next few days right down what you eat, right after you eat it. Keep a little journalists pad n pen with you for the next few days. Also, right down some notes on the meal. -Do I feel full? -Do I feel bloated? -Do I still have cravings? These can help you better understand the entire process and help you better understand your body. You'll be able to learn what you crave, and possibly why (maybe going too long without food or something else). You can even document before a meal, but the key is right after to keep specific detail on what you ate. Today is Friday, so start this tomorrow, and finish it up on Monday. Post it up Monday night or Tuesday. If you feel more comfortable, you can pm (private message) it to me. Weekends are good markers because this is often when people fail in a diet. Monday is also good as it's the start of the week and most don't enjoy Mondays, which can also lead to some interesting eating habits.
Been a busy weekend so far! Im going to respond in more detail tomorrow night! And im keeping up with the log, thanks!
How about some vegetables and dip? Carrots, Broccoli and Bell Peppers have a great profile of vitamins, minerals, and additional phytonutrients. So long as you're eating more vegetables than dip, you should be good. In addition, you can mix things up from just ranch. Peanut Butter or Almond butter are both good, and offer more nutritional benefits. Broccoli + PB is a personal favorite of mine. You can also look at low-fat marinara sauce or salsa with a little bit of cheese. Part of getting into better shape through nutrition is not always decreasing calories, but putting things into your body that it can actually do something with. Craving salts is often due to high levels of cortisol, which uses sodium to form mineral-cortoids. This can occur from high levels of stress as well as medications you might be taking, but it can also occur from diet and just being used to eating salty foods all the time. In attempt to help keep you on track, do you have any specific goals you are looking for? If not, perhaps we can help you make some goals for yourself. If "better" is you're goal, it's often hard to reach mainly because you never really know if you've hit it or not. It's too subjective; Bett 2 months from now (if progress is made) has higher standards than Bett today, and the definition of "better" has changed significantly. If you goal is instead to "lose X pounds", "do X pushups", or something of that nature, this is something we can measure, analyze, and set new goals. Slightly off topic (or perhaps not), but I feel this is a good analogy to the previous paragraph's mentality. My favorite forms of bodyweight exercise are variations of crawls on a track or football field (some place where I can measure off distances). The rationale is that I have a finish line to focus on. The more the exercise takes away my energy, the closer I am to the finish line, which only motivates me further because I'm "just so close"! When I reach my goal, I see the next line 10 yards down the field and I know exactly where I want to end up next time around. The point is to have metrics to see where you are and come up with ways to continue to challenge yourself as you progress. You have to understand that women are simply genetically inferior to bro's. It's scientifically proven that women's brains are 60% smaller than that of bro's; therefore, their ability to comprehrend and participate in brotelligent conversations is near non-existent. In general, freshly microwaved cantelopes, which is what most of these guys spend their time with, are ten-fold more brotelligent than women. I understand this might be difficult for you to comprehend, let alone accept, as your BQ (Brotelligence Quotient....duh!) is probably around the same number as one of the Jona's brothers, which I'm assuming is still high enough for you to see that the Jona's brothers (despite the use of the letters "B" "R" and "O") are not true bro's and therefore lack a significant amount of brotelligence. Don't feel too discouraged, though. If it makes you feel any better, I am borderline brotarded. I'm often frowned upon for my inability to understand broscience or why Ms. Snooki is famous.
I believe this is Bob trying to display humor, so don't read into it more than as someone again telling you that online "bro's" are simple minded tards. I've worked in a gym, and you can pick these douchers out a mile away. They have no etiquette and come close to breaking EVERY rule in the gym. These same brotards would come in and ask questions or tell me "what they're stackin" and how their other bro gained 25lbs and is now jacked. It's very sad, and most do not educate themselves, they simple follow a small group that leach onto each other when in heated battles online. You don't get one, you get the whole bunch.
I can't help to wonder how a conversation with Bob would be like... Me vs Bob.... Wow... Slighty off topic, but I know, as well as everyone of you, that it's a hard image to comprehend... Me and Bob in a conversation.. As to your goal and etc... I will give you the same advice that I usually give to everybody.. Start small, have a goal.. or have 2 goals.. Rather 2 smaller goals then 1 big.. Aim for something that might seem impossible, but also not so impossible.. If you get what I mean... Having smaller goals and REACHING them is a great thing for motivation!! Having a large goal before christmas or something just makes you disappointed if you don't reach it and can actually break you.. (meaning... You go back to your usual self and usual habits). Bob tips on veggies is great.. You might wanna start looking into other cultures dishes.. We (me and my familiy) just came back from Lanzarote on the Canarie Islands... We noticed how much their dishes looked like ours, but on the same hand not like ours... Theirs sauces have different base ingredients.. In Sweden, we have cream and salt like our base ingredients.. They had vinegar and oil.. Tasted great, but isn't what we are "used" too.. Vinegar is a great way to incrase the flavor of veggies and contains very little kcal.. Sorry.. Don't have time to write more right now.. Need to get back to work.. I'll get back to you later... And oh.. If you haven't noticed already... I'm the Swede of this board... My gramma is what it is Ps.. You don't look like a meat ball at all on your profile pic, you actually look fit.. But again, it's hard to say much just from a profile pic..
Ok I don't know how to quote people so bare with me as I respond to all of you!! First of all, normally I'm on here more often. Me weekend was filled with a shooting competition, and then a HUGE migraine which I just now got rid of. I had to take today off because of it. Bnatural-For your first post...My current weight is 137, but I'm 5 feet so that is def considered too much if you look at statistics. I know for a fact that the majority of that is body fat, so that's what I need to get rid of! I do crave salty things more than sweets. I was hoping almonds would cure that, but so far they don't feel me up. They do help that salty craving though. I currently live with my boyfriend and sometimes I have to plan meals for both of us. I guess I don't have to, but I like to. He works nights 8 weeks, then days 8 weeks and has every other weekend off. But he also does off duty, so when we get to have dinner together I like to make something for us both. With that said, for my other meals I'm flexible enough to just plan those for myself. I know my boyfriend would eat whatever I fixed, but he is slat heavy on foods and I feel I have to add more salt to things than I like. Green beans for example taste fine to me without salt. He however, doesn't agree. Any way, I can eat healthier just don't know how to start! Friday: Breakfast-Myofusion protein shake, 1 scoop....2 hours later luna bar....2 hours later tuna with a salad, and an apple...1 hour later 10 almonds...still really hungry though...for dinner chicken and green beans...had some PB about a spoon full close to dinner. I had a lo carb monster energy drink in the morning. Saturday-Breakfast-biscuit with cheese..oops lol...we had the shooting comp today so I was outside from 9-3..I just snacked during the day on some goldfish crackers and water...clearly didn't plan well for this...dinner, burger no bun, and a salad. This was an unusual saturday, normally I don't eat red meat anymore, and I don't snack or eat that little. Sunday-Got a migraine this day, so I hardly ate. Breakfast..luna bar, lunch, burger from yesterday, had some chips a little while later, then laid down to try and get rid of my headache. I know this isn't a good idea to go off of. Friday is more normal. But like you said it's harder on the weekends! thesinner-Wow, never thought of broccoli and PB..are you serious?! I do love both though. When it comes to veggies, green beans, broccoli, and carrots are my favs. As far as goals I think I def want to loose 20 pounds by May 29th...is this possible? I dunno! I also want to feel stronger and in shape. So perhaps...I want to be able to do 20 pushups, 20 burpees, 20 crunches, 20 high knees, 20 lunges, etc in 6 minutes..and then maybe increase that as I get stronger. For my may goal I'm not sure how to stretch that so that it's a realistic goal. I do have another goal for running. I would like to run a 5k in under 30 minutes and without any stopping. The last one I ran was in 42 minutes and I stopped 2 times. Do those sound good?! My ultimate goal is really to lose some weight to lean out, have flat abs, and change my eating habits to healthier lifetime habits, not just a quick fix. WHat do you think?! Don't worry I don't know why Snooki is so famous either! With your broness comments I get the whole bro business. But when guys make comments such as "you look like a slut and if you were my lady I would call a cab for you" or " your nose looks smushed in" or " you obviously need attention or you wouldn't be in a male dominated forum" and many more are the comments made those no longer qualify as broheaded comments, they are more so degrading, dbagging, and just not cool! I was going for a harsher word, but decided against it! I"m not offended by anything you said! That I could comprehend at least Bnatural-for your second post...you are right they do leach together. That is exactly what they did and ganged up on making me feel like shit for no reason. I thought posing that question would be perfect because guys would respond, but I learned my lesson. Eizbear-I like swedish meatballs, just don't wanna look like one LOL. I posted my goals farther up. Feel free to comment. I like to journal so I have a lot of different ones not just about fitness. I kind of based those off thesinner's advice. Thanks for saying I don't look like a meatball lol. The pic is a little old. My face still looks the same, but I am no longer fit. Most of my weight is in my tummy and upper thighs which is where I want to lose it. My tummy atleast. I don't mind the thighs. I don't feel comfortable posting a pic of me right now. But keep in mind I weigh 136 and I"m 5 feet. So its more weight than I should have.
I have attached a picture for you guys to enjoy I"m sure lol. I would love my abs to eventually look like that. I dunno if I want my hips to be that bony, but you get the idea. Def a goal and a motivational pic for me to aim for!
May 29th is in about 4 months. With a rule of thumb of 1-2lbs per week, 20lbs seems like it is doable. Do you have 20lbs to lose? I can only infer so much from a thumbnail image, Girls have a tendency to overshoot in their weightloss goals, and since they don't usually have as much muscle mass, don't tip the scales as easily. Weightloss is the trickiest of goals to set. All of these other goals are great as well. How many pushups can you do right now? Bonus points if, while reading this, you step away from the computer and blast out as many as you can. Another "goal" I would recommend is "sticking to the plan". For example, I make it a goal to do x,y, and z each week. We often set aside certain times on certain days to work out... but stuff happens and we can't always get to it. Setting a goal to own up to your activity on a weekly basisis sort of an extra measure I use. It's more of attitude thing to micromanage my activity levels throughout the week. For you, this could be something like doing calisthenics 3 times per week and running 3 times per week. Sluts don't wear hats. I thought everyone knew this.
I can as well say it, as everyone else thinks so too... That picture is Hoooooot! You look really good on your profile picture as well, period... You'll notice the more you hang here, that you won't recieve comments that are of negative attitude.. We are positive, down to earth kind of people.. If someone doesn't behave, they either get a warning or they get banned.. We like to take care of each other here and help out as much as we can to give inspiration and movitation! Thanks for liking me (Swedish meatballs), I do keep hearing people liking that I don't think that 20 lbs in 4 weeks is impossible, it seems really reasonable.. But remember.. If you don't make it, be glad of what you have accomplished.. I mean, if you lose 8 kilos that is great as well! But it's easier to push oneself with a goal. About the salt.. I crave salt too.. But I also have a baby who can't eat salt, well, not until he is 2, since childrens kidneys aren't fully developed before that... I just toss on the salt AFTER I have put it on the plate.. It works great, so it would as well work for your boyfriend.. He can atleast try that.. I works good for me! What kind of diets have you tried.. I do feel strong for Intermittent Fasting, but it's a diet and it's not for everyone.. If you can afford a TRX-equipment, it would be a great help for you, as it allows you to do a bit more exercises with really good tension, just with the body weight.. Execellent for core strength!
