Unbelievable....Today just went to see ma doctor, got disc herniation L4-L5, he said that i could cure or make it better but it will take 3 years. How should I decide to do this guys? To stop 3 years to make my back cured or better(no sports, no workouts), or continue working out with lighter weights (not sure if my back can be cured perfectly or not)??..To keep up my body, i really dont want to give up everything, for many years that i have worked out, to gain muscles, dont wanna lose'em.

Talk to a physical therapist with a PhD. Nobody here (that I know of) is qualified to give what would seem as medical advice. I know of plenty of people that have worked through it by correcting muscle imabalances and whatnot, but have a professional tell you.

Spinal injuries are no laughing matter. They are one thing that can ail you every single day, and if you don't get them taken care of, will strain your entire life for the duration of it. My best advice is indeed to talk to a doctor. If surgery is recommended, go for it. Do NOT worry about losing what you have built in the gym. If you keep pushing it and delay fixing your spine, you will certainly lose it and then some. Forget the gym and anything that will injury you further. Get your back taken care of. If it means 3 years away from the gym, then so be it. Come back and do it all over again. It simply isn't worth it!

A scenario like this should present some options, as most PTs would agree that some work is better than no work.
I would do as the prof suggested and speak with a few different PTs.
Muscle wasting can present an entirely new crop of issues, and there are exercises that can be performed to work around this injury. I will not offer any of them, but a pt should be able to help you with this injury.
best of luck on the road to recovery, and remember that life does go on, so risking further injury is no joke and no good later in life.
