Do any of you suffer from heartburn or acid reflux during your training session? If you do then what do you do? It happens to me,not often, but it does and it seriously takes the wind out of the drive.
What is being put in your stomach before you work out. I used to get heartburn a lot when I was younger. When I did, I always swore by Tagamet. I don't know if that helps you out at all, but it's my heartburn medication of choice.
i was having issues with heartburn/acide reflux while training, but even more so at night... got to the point where i had to sleep propped up at 45 degree angle... after finally having enough, i went to the drugstore and bought a bottle of prevacid. it's 1 capsule, once a day for 14 days. man, it has been instant relief. no issues whatsoever anymore. i can tolerate the more acidic fruit juices again too... love me some OJ in the morning!
Only when I dose supps too close to wo time or drinking an intra-wo drink(other than water). I have to have anything I want to take, down at least 30 minutes pre-wo.
I can get it sometimes, but it's nothing that I would count as often... When I do get em, I can usually treat em with just some water and a breathmint... Guessing that yours is worse then that.. Hope you find something to deal with it... Stuff like that can really destroy a good workout :/
Sometimes I do not have to do anything, just drink a glass of water.I get it bad enough that Tums or Rolaids won't even help. I will be taking the advice of kimswollwilliams and look into Prevacid or as Sinner said Tagament. Thanks all for the great advice once again.
Thanks Eizbear. Yea it is a real good way to bring a work out to a halt. If it hits me like that again do you all think it would be Ok to stop for a few minutes and take an antacid to see if I can stop it? How long would be too long before I cooled down too much?
It's absolurely no problem to take a few minutes to recover yourself... Don't worry about that... I would say it's cool to take as much as you feel like... I'm a realative new parent, my son just turned 4 month today, and I need to take a few minutes here and there ... And I know it affects my training, but not to that degree that I think it's bad.. It's just not as good as an uninterrupted workout I even think that a proffessional athlet as Kim even takes a few minutes if he feel that he needs it..
Perhaps try taking an anti acid before training. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as the saying goes. Please note, as you work out your blood becomes more acidic. This may be leading to the increase in stomach acid that's giving you heart burn. What happens is sugars are broken down into energy forming a chemical called "carbonic acid". Carbonic acid breaks down into carbon dioxide gas and water, where it can be released by exhaling. You breathe heavily when you work out not just for the oxygen, but to remove carbon dioxide as well.
something like tums, or similar should help pre workout, those chewables taste pretty good too... i find a tall cup of milk also provides some temporary relief (tho not ideal before training)...
Hi all. Trained yesterday and tried a liquid antacid (Malox) 20 mins before and it seemed to help. Thanks for the great advice from all and the info there Sinner.
I have heartburn all the time and I get nauseous with it to where I feel if I move I will puke. If I am out of my tagamet or whatever acid reducer I have had in the house, I will take some of the chewable antacids. I buy the generic brand and since I would probably throw up if I chewed one, I take like 2 or 3, break them into 4 peices each and swallow down whole. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but when I am desperate for some relief that is what I do. This will cause it to expand I guess in my tummy and I burp and feel instantly better.
cause u feel it in ur chest I think, i don't really know from personal experience tho. The way i understand it stomach acid gets up into the esophagus and u get a burning feeling in ur chest
yeah, but wouldn't throatburn or just acidburn be a better name ? Or even chestburn... I mean... Heartburn... ? Well well, you see how different it can be around the world
