I was just wondering how bad diet soda is (in moderation) compared to regular soda? With regular soda, you're consuming empty calories... but there are several studies surrounding diet soda and how bad it is for you...What are your thoughts?
In moderation, I don't think there's really a difference. A can of pop has about 45g of sugar, which is only 180 kcal anyways. Of course, the kicker is the term "in moderation", which is arbitrarily defined.
If you google "Aspartame side effects" or "Aspartame dangers" there's a plethora of information out there...
That's only because aspartame killed Professor Plum in the Kitchen, with the Candlestick. He never got his research published.
Scout, the internet will tell you want you want to hear. You say there are studies. I want to know what studies you are referencing, that's all. Unless you aren't referencing studies, in which case the argument is just "they say it's bad", when they isn't a particular source in general, but is just how the general public references the 'scientific community'. I do research for a living, and google is almost NEVER a resource. I'm not trying to be an ass, or nitpicky, but you are telling me to google something about an argument YOU are presenting, instead of presenting the information yourself. If you have any specific questions about diet soda being bad I could probably resolve them for you with no problem. FYI: Mice that are in cancer studies are engineered to be prone to cancer. Everything will give them cancer. Just to put all of this into perspective, an altered mice line used to test hundreds of compounds for cancer properties. Of the 1000 chemicals found in coffee, 30 have been tested in mice, of those tested, 22 cause cancer. 73.33% of the compounds in coffee that they tested in mice caused cancer. But nobody is taking coffee off of the shelves... If you haven't figured it out, i'm quite bitter about the subject :-p Here is a valid and peer reviewed source, geared for the public, for your learning pleasure regarding what I just mentioned. http://potency.berkeley.edu/text/Paustenbach.pdf Also, being as source itself, there are also close to 300 other sources in its bibliography...
I used to have an old bodybuilding book written by ALR (if any of you guys remember that kook), with a recipe in it for a protein shake. -1 Can of Tuna -1 Can of Diet Coke -Blend well and serve.
Hell, I can do that, too! Lemme put this one out there: -1 Diet Tab -1 Raccoon -Blend, strain, enjoy Yeah, tuna and coke? Nasty. I don't think tune and 'coke' would even be a good combination!
